Batman REDESIGN by DomEddi Batman REDESIGN by DomEddi
I was thinking for a very long time about the Batman's costume about its symbology and its use, and I've re-imagine it thinking "How would I make it if I was Batman?"
Here's what I've done:

THE COAT:
This is the first thing I've changed from the original costume: I've always wondered "Isn't the cape an obstruction?" We know that Bruce Wayne choosed the bat as a symbol to strike fear, and the cape helps in this, but I think there's a practical way (and a little bit less ridiculous than a cape, for the real world). So I've designed this coat, that when opened makes the shape of bat's wing.

THE HELMET:
I've always think that a full mask (without the "mouth hole") looks better for Batman, for a bigger protection I've made an helmet, that looks a lot like the RedHood one, and maybe with a tech interface and gadget inside. C'mon Bruce, you can afford that!

THE SUIT:
It is a modern protective suit, like the ones for extreme sports, with a spine guard and "d3o" padding on articulation and other sensible point.

THE BELT:
The only thing that I've changed is the shape of the utility belt: it's a climbing belt, but it has all the traditional gadget inside.

GLOVES & BOOTS:
I've not designed gloves and boots, because they have nothing special: simple black gloves, that allows flexibility (we need a lot of dexterity for things like lockpicking) and protective boots, like motorcycle boots.

That's all, hope you like that! Let me know what you think ;)

Great job here. Cape turned into coat? Genius. I agree completely with every design choice you made here. I may try your process out for my self. Thank you so much for sharing.

This inspired me to design my own Batman, I liked the idea of the cape being a jacket so I used that.  Love this design of yours.  Very cool.  (I'll post my soon.)

This is probably one of my favorite redesigns, but I feel that the cape should still be an option. It had many practical uses.

-As stated above: misdirection

-Bulletproof

-Weighted tips for fighting and gliding

-When draped over his shoulders, his form is obscured and he seems to melt out of the darkness and that is the one thing this redesign lacks: it isn't imposing. When he is standing still, he's just a guy with a spiked helmet and a coat. When Batman stands, he's an indomitable figure. You can't see what his hands are doing or his legs. If he crouches, the cape covers him still and he seems to instead melt into the floor and shadows rather than stoop.

That's what I feel this is lacking, as cool as this redesign is, it doesn't feel like Batman but more of a street-style batman.
