Batman REDESIGN by DomEddi Batman REDESIGN by DomEddi
I was thinking for a very long time about the Batman's costume about its symbology and its use, and I've re-imagine it thinking "How would I make it if I was Batman?"
Here's what I've done:

THE COAT:
This is the first thing I've changed from the original costume: I've always wondered "Isn't the cape an obstruction?" We know that Bruce Wayne choosed the bat as a symbol to strike fear, and the cape helps in this, but I think there's a practical way (and a little bit less ridiculous than a cape, for the real world). So I've designed this coat, that when opened makes the shape of bat's wing.

THE HELMET:
I've always think that a full mask (without the "mouth hole") looks better for Batman, for a bigger protection I've made an helmet, that looks a lot like the RedHood one, and maybe with a tech interface and gadget inside. C'mon Bruce, you can afford that!

THE SUIT:
It is a modern protective suit, like the ones for extreme sports, with a spine guard and "d3o" padding on articulation and other sensible point.

THE BELT:
The only thing that I've changed is the shape of the utility belt: it's a climbing belt, but it has all the traditional gadget inside.

GLOVES & BOOTS:
I've not designed gloves and boots, because they have nothing special: simple black gloves, that allows flexibility (we need a lot of dexterity for things like lockpicking) and protective boots, like motorcycle boots.

That's all, hope you like that! Let me know what you think ;)

Alright, before I start, I have to say that as a complete and not a rehash Redesign of the Batsuit this is the best.

But what I'm going to ramble on about is the in canon reasons and examples why some of the bits of his classic design existed, why they do have a use after all and how some of your redesigns can fall behind the current Bat-gear.

THE CAPE
The first and most famous utility to talk about is the Cape as a glider. Its size being perfect for a glider compared to the smaller and shorter cloak. Not to say the cloak can do the same, it's just that the cloak looks more capable of just slowing a fast descent in a desirable direction, whereas the Cape, as shown in the Nolan and Arkham Sagas, can pick up more wind and give pseudo flight by riding the increased wind.

Then there's it's protective utilities. Obviously both the Cape and your BatCoat would be fire-proof, but the coat can't exactly blanket more that just the wearer now can it. Same goes for any kind of chemical or explosion that it can protect against.

And finally for the cape, the Cape stun. Yes, in Batman comics, the possibility of a Cape stun is actually canon. The exterior of the Cape is made of the memorable Memory Cloth that allows the gliding. But between (or weaved with, I forget sometimes) the Memory Cloth is Kevlar which provides the protection. Then at the tips of the Cape, the Kevlar is now triple-weave just like the rest of the Batsuit, making it a heavy and painful striking weapon. (imagine getting smacked hard on the face by a wet towel, yeah)

THE GLOVES AND GAUNTLET BLADES
Though with the original Batsuit, the spikes and gloves are legit just pointy bits of cloth, recently, they've gained very a nice use. First they're now made of actual steel, for the basic purpose of blocking, locking and snapping blades. But if and only if we are to count the Nolan and Arkham verse, the blades can fold into the gauntlet, just in case it has to, and can also be ejected as extra projectiles.

THE LANTERN JAW OF JUSTICE
This'll be the most "for awesomeness' sake" reason and explanation and I swear to God and my manhood I didn't make this up. In the standalone "Joker" 2008 graphic novel by Brian Azzarello, by the end of the story which tries to paint Joker as a dogged anti-hero and Batman as the unrelenting villain hunting Joker, the Joker tries to rip apart Batman's "creature of the night" shtick by focusing on why he leaves that... amazing, well-crafted, heroic, orga-... that went somewhere wrong... jaw open. Batman breaks apart the Joker's entire paragraphs worth of criticizing the Jaw in three words:

"To mock you."

Seriously, that's why he leaves his jaw wide open. So that you have a weak spot you want to hot SO BAD, only for him to counter your efforts, beat you, and then, as he looks down on your defeated self, with that "weak spot" of his, you will hear how your wrong, how your defeated, and if he's really feeling like poring salt on your ego, you get to see him SMILE at your defeat. That alone had me sold on why he'd keep the lower half of his face visible.

Putting all this aside, for an original take on the Batsuit, you made a pure masterpiece I tell you. But to say that some aspects of his costume to be dumb is... actually quite reasonable from ours, the observers, viewpoint. But if you look at it from the perspective of Bruce himself, with all the things he's been through and all the things that inspired him, you'll appreciate and actually find the practicality of it all.

Thanks for the compliments and thanks for sharing this, it's nice to discuss about this.
I see your point and I agree with most of it, but I also think that most of the things you said the cape only can do, are also things that you can do with the Bat-coat (I said that not in defense of my redesign, but because I see that maybe a did not explained or shown well in the picture how the coat really is made and shaped, but I have this things clearly figured in my mind  XD so maybe one day I'll draw it better ^^)
Anyway, again thank you ;)

I love it. The coat really gives off a kind of Dracula element which compliments Bruce's whole 'creature of the night' shtick, completed by the mask.

And the unspoken rule strikes again. Give a guy a coat and they immediately become 80% more badass.
Give a coat to one who is already badass, the effective increase in badassery rises to 100%
Give BATMAN a coat, and the badass meter breaks.

I've always thought he should have a full face mask to really complete the "creature of the night" aesthetic. Though i've always thought less than a full face mask probably wouldn't hide your identity very well either, so it should really apply to a lot of superheroes, Flash, Green Arrow, etc. There are very few places where this shouldn't apply, Supes and a few others maybe. Enough of my rambling, this is a great redesign, awesome work.

I could have sworn I had posted on this a year or two back.
It is still awesome.

Can a batman in full Cowl, mantle, and hood, suddenly blend into a crowd? nope.
this makes for an awesome "civilian disguise": Bruce wayne could be out in a long coat, then BAM!
He's batman
or Batman can dodge into a distracted crowd and disappear as a civilian.

I like the enclosed mask: no chance of Dna evidence - teeth, blood, skin, hair. facial recognition software fails. it's protective, easily include a voice scrambler, sound canceler, air filter, re-breather. Burning building full of toxic fumes? no problem. A villain who likes to spit, spray gas, use garrotes/choke out. etc. You got him beat. open the mask if you want to "show some skin" but really, leaving your jaw, mouth, and nostrils unprotected is just wrong.

I like the long coat idea much more than the cape. Why? "misdirection" is still on the table to an extent all he has to do is "Open" the coat/cape.  When you wear an armored cape- that is HEAVY. armor renders misdirection a pointless waste of time/energy. A cape that is too long and you could get snagged or killed... even by an escalator! if your costume is not armored misdirection doesn't amount to anything when the guy you can't see gets a lucky shot. A long cape stuffed under a suit jacket is automatic fail. a long cape that is automatically your favorite coat is WIN.
Gloves are great: no shed skin, no shed hairs, no DNA, No fingerprints. Who says that the Jacket sleeves can't harbor a surprise or two?  one of batman's worst "tells" is going to his utility belt. you can have gadgets concealed virtually everywhere on his person. going back to gloves, boots, et al: you can add extras that "Activate" for use such as digital chameleon camouflage, Gecko grip, and more.

Batman is a powerless human being. He doesn't use "Cheats" to be a hero. No drugs, no magic, and he rises above the easy cowardice of merely pulling a trigger.
Yes, he is the most exceptional normal human being with an Olympic gold winning physicality and Super-genius intellect: but he is still just a guy.
He pushes himself to be the best he can be: Acrobat, gymnast, body builder, contortionist, escape artist, mastery of multiple martial arts, numerous weapons, various fighting styles, multiple languages, extensive training in forensics, ballistics, pathology, bio-science, medicine, psychology, navigation, law, business, accounting, security systems expert, pilot, equestrian, survival, Mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, computer engineer...

With a Marilyn vos savant I.q. of 500+ even starting from the age of 8, there is absolutely no reason for batman to not excel in so many diverse subjects by the time he hits 23.

Resources (Super powers- Money, connections, celebrity, HE'S the BOSS: the idea that Bruce Wayne can ask his best and brightest employees for a little help with this/that/the other thing, without exposing himself as BATMAN is brilliant. The idea that Wayne enterprises has an archived R&D department that he can raid for tech is a good one - in this way the Nolan dark night movies are right.
The idea that he hires armies of private contractors to build concealed mini-bat caves with cache's of military grade hardware all across Gotham is just stupid. Sorry Nolan, but that is just wrong.

Batman uses fear, he doesn't play bad cop - good cop, he play's bad cop - an THE GD BATMAN. People should fear him, he's a freaking ninja, a master of stealth!

In my opinion this is something that ought to used by a BAT-somebody.

This is probably one of my favorite redesigns, but I feel that the cape should still be an option. It had many practical uses.

-As stated above: misdirection

-Bulletproof

-Weighted tips for fighting and gliding

-When draped over his shoulders, his form is obscured and he seems to melt out of the darkness and that is the one thing this redesign lacks: it isn't imposing. When he is standing still, he's just a guy with a spiked helmet and a coat. When Batman stands, he's an indomitable figure. You can't see what his hands are doing or his legs. If he crouches, the cape covers him still and he seems to instead melt into the floor and shadows rather than stoop.

That's what I feel this is lacking, as cool as this redesign is, it doesn't feel like Batman but more of a street-style batman.

This actually looks like what I'd expect Jason Todd's Bruce-sanctioned costume to be. It has some classic styles to it, along with a lot of nods to Jason's other stints, like the Red Hood (in the jacket and the belts, looking fairly utilitarian) and the face mask (from when he tried to usurp the position from the others).
